WAYS TO HELP PREVENT KNEE INJURIES

Use the cleat less shoes, as many pro teams do.

If you play contact sports, run with short, choppy steps.  If you anticipate being hit, shorten your stride.

If possible, protect your knees from a hit, especially from the back and side.

Exercise the muscle around the knee.  This will increase the strength of the knee.

Don't do full squats with heavy weight.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE INJURED

YOUR KNEE

Rest your knee.

Ice your knee for 20 minutes each hour.

Apply a compressive wrap.

Elevate your knee.

See your sports medicine physician as soon as possible.

If you have a chronic knee problem, see myself or your personal sports medicine physician for a proper evaluation.  Many times, your condition can be treated and improved or eliminated by proper care.
